Shalako Kachina Doll - 14 Inch - Yellow Corn This Kachina Doll is named "Yellow Corn" with a golden face. This kachina doll is called a Shalako, Shalako is an American Indian dance ceremony performed by an Indian Shaman, Chief or priest. This kachina doll is hand carved from a cottonwood root, with intricate etching and is hand painted in beautiful, vibrant colors and unique patterns.
The reason these Shalako kachina dolls are carved from a bent root gives the effect of the priest being blown about by the wind. The priest climbs high upon a mesa to give thanks to God for abundant gifts. This Shalako priest appears to be holding his robes tightly around him as he prays.
This kachina doll was handcrafted by the Navajo artist T. Yazzie, stands 13 1/2 inches tall, on a 3 inch wooden base, with artist's initials on the bottom of the doll.
